Potassium iodide is the white potassium salt of hydroiodic acid, which is readily soluble in water with strong cooling. Potassium iodide is used in the laboratory to produce iodine potassium iodide solution (Lugol solution). It is also used for the production of silver iodide and for the production of medicines. Iodized table salt, on the other hand, is a table salt enriched with sodium and potassium iodate (KIO3).
